Billywagon is the brand name for Darmstadt-based artist / designer, William Greenwood B.A. Hons.
The concept is to combine art and design and conceive unique graphical elements for art prints, posters, postcards, bookcovers and varied merchandising. William explains:
'I have always been looking for a way to pull my different disciplines together - so often with art and design, different mediums are kept in seperate shoeboxes. The road of the artist is a long and lonely way. Although I have enjoyed some successes as an artist, had some great exhibitions, been on tv a few times, not very many people get the chance to see the work. I wanted to find a way to change that, to make what I create more accessable to the general public. With the advent of 'print on demand', I realised that I could create amalgams of my artwork and present them in new ways - use my graphic design skills and create art-based design elements that could adorn a wide variety of merchandising.'

ABOUT WILLIAM GREENWOOD |
William, after graduating in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts in Design, has spent the last 30 years working in graphics, glass, painting and printmaking. He spent a long time as a freelance graphic designer, 'driving the Mac' as he calls it - working at design agencies bashing-out the corporate stuff for blue-chip companies. He moved from London to Darmstadt in 2001 and continued the freelance crusade. In 2004, he set up the Greenwood Glass and Art Gallery and for the next ten years, pursued his passion for glass sculpture. In 2009, he re-commenced 'printmaking' (his second discipline at university), and has produced a portfolio of prints depicting prints of Darmstadt and the Palmengarten in Frankfurt. Then the painting kicked in, William picked up the oils and goauche and has produced a series of paintings of Darmstadt and the surrounding area. His work has been exhibited a number of times in Darmstadt and at the Palmengarten, Frankfurt. |
